Pieter recently joined Airbnb as public policy manager for the Netherlands & Nordics. He is responsible for building relationships with local and national governments in six countries. Within this capacity Pieter works with policymakers to develop one-of-a-kind campaign efforts that highlight our community and advance public policy for our hosts, for cities and for the entire sharing economy.
Before Pieter joined Airbnb, he was director of tech incubator YES!Delft where he supported entrepreneurs to build leading technology companies. More than 200 startups have been selected and supported by YES!Delft, resulting in over 1500 jobs. YES!Delft is ranked as the number 2 university based incubator globally.
From 2010 till 2014 he was deputy mayor in the city of Delft (the Netherlands), responsible for economy, spatial planning, city marketing and student housing. In this job he built public private partnerships, leading to a joint investment program of 1 billion euros for the development of the Technological Innovation Campus Delft.
He obtained his Master degree at the Delft University of Technology in 2010 and recently completed an executive Master of Public Administration at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. On a voluntary basis he is very much involved with culture and arts. He chairs the international committee of the Dutch Performing Arts Fund and is a frequent visitor of opera, theatres and cinema.
